It’s the night of Halloween, and you’re once again rifling through your wardrobe in the hope of cobbling together some sort of black cat costume. We’ve all been there. But don’t resign yourself to another year of eyeliner whiskers quite yet. From Marc Jacobs in a neck brace at his spring/summer 2004 after-party to Pat McGrath’s glass-doll make-up at Margiela’s 2024 Artisanal show, British has combed through fashion’s nichest moments to compile a list of looks you can recreate at home. A few of our favourite moments from 2026 – hello, Naomi Campbell on a Lime bike – have made the cut, too. Find your costume below.
Richard Prince’s spring/summer 2008 Louis Vuitton nurse

Red lips and nails, a little eyeliner, a mesh mask and a nurse’s cap are all you need to recreate one of the Richard Prince-inspired nurses from Marc Jacobs’s spring/summer 2008 Louis Vuitton show.
Marc Jacobs in a neck brace at his spring/summer 2004 afterparty
While we’re on the subject of Jacobs, who could forget the neck brace he wore to his spring/summer 2004 after-party? One for office sirens with a sense of humour: pair yours with your most bookish glasses and a blue button-down shirt, spritzed liberally with water.

Lime bikes are nowhere near as easy to ride as regular cyclists make them look. For the cycling-averse, channel Naomi Campbell with ombré hair (a wig or temporary colour spray will do), sunglasses and a pair of disposable blue gloves.
Margiela’s spring/summer 2024 glass doll

Recreating Pat McGrath’s spellbinding make-up for Margiela’s spring/summer 2024 Artisanal show is simpler than it looks. Run a little concealer through the brows, stamp blue eyeshadow onto your lids and let loose with your favourite blush. For the models’ glassy, porcelain-doll skin, try McGrath’s own glass-skin mask – but in a pinch, really dewy skin does the job, too.
The 2000 BBC documentary is peppered with divinely outrageous quotes, but Plum Sykes delivers perhaps the most useful for our purposes: “Who’s going to go and wear a chiffon Dolce & Gabbana skirt like this to the office? Only me, or only someone who works at .” To channel her – or someone who works at – all you need is your most fabulous skirt.
Miuccia Prada christening a boat

What better way to pay homage to one of the foremost designers of our time, Miuccia Prada, than by dressing as her christening a yacht? All you need is a bottle of champagne (or San Pellegrino, for those who don’t imbibe), some killer sunglasses and a burgundy coat.

Nothing gets in the way of Suzy Menkes’s pristine pompadour – not even Paris Fashion Week “chaos”. A thoroughly teased quiff and a patterned blazer are all you need to channel the critic.
Shalom Harlow at Alexander McQueen’s spring/summer 1999 show
Flick a little face paint across your face, neck, chest and arms to pay homage to Shalom Harlow at Alexander McQueen’s spring/summer 1999 show.

Designers Coco Chanel and Elsa Schiaparelli were notoriously fierce rivals, but one story takes some beating. At a costume ball, Chanel reportedly invited Schiaparelli – dressed as a Surrealist tree – to dance, then spun her into a lit candelabra. Guests extinguished the flames; relations remained frosty. To recreate, one person could singe the edges of their least favourite dress, while the other could be costumed in tailored black trousers.
Lana Del Rey feeling lonely at a fashion show

You’re spoilt for choice when it comes to iconic Lana Del Rey looks, but this one is for the fashion insiders. Who hasn’t pretended to be busy on their phone while a show runs half an hour late and their seatmates show no interest in conversation? Wear that crushing social anxiety on your sleeve this Halloween with a pleated white skirt, a knotted white T-shirt and matching ballet flats.
