Penélope Cruz And Javier Bardem Are Coming For The Clooneys’ Couple Style Crown
Back in 1992, Penélope Cruz made her feature-film debut in the comedy-drama , playing a young factory worker embroiled in a maddening love triangle in the Monegros desert.
The film not only made Cruz a household name in her native Spain, but also introduced her to co-star Javier Bardem, who would become a frequent collaborator – and, eventually, her husband. The pair went on to appear in Love Can Seriously Damage Your Health (1996), (1997), (2001) and (2008), for which Cruz won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress.
It was reportedly on the set of the latter that their professional relationship turned romantic; they became engaged in 2009 and quietly married the following year in an intimate ceremony in the Bahamas. After welcoming two children – their son, Leo, in 2011, followed by their daughter, Luna, in 2013 – the couple returned to the screen together in 2017’s , playing notorious Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar and his lover, the author and journalist Virginia Vallejo.

Cruz and Bardem are now set to reunite as on-screen paramours in , in which they play married couple Miguel and Sofia, whose lives are upended when Miguel, a successful London architect, accepts a morally dubious commission to build a survivalist bunker for a tech billionaire. They tend to save their joint red-carpet appearances for major moments – the 2022 Oscars, where they were both nominated, among them – and the film’s Venice Film Festival premiere was one such moment, with Penélope selecting scarlet custom Chanel to face the cameras with her dapper husband on her arm.
