Although we’re experiencing something of an ’80s revival, Noughties style doesn’t appear to be going anywhere either. This autumn, we’re taking inspiration from some of the greats: Kate, Sienna and Keira, who, whether roaming Glastonbury’s Healing Fields or Portobello Road Market, made the case for leather boots as the ultimate investment piece.
Maybe you’re inspired by their infamous Gen X boot tuck, or want to wear yours with this season’s low-slung skirt. Either way, there’s a leather boot for every persuasion: slouchy or sleek, black or brown – or even snakeskin, as demonstrated by our It-girl muses. Whether you’re heading to the office, partying with Pete Doherty or catching up with the Primrose Hill set, the transformative power of a good pair of boots is not to be underestimated.
Below, we’ve rounded up the best ways to style yours this season.

The paparazzi pictures of a young Keira Knightley and Jamie Dornan are the stuff of Noughties legend, but the actress’s solo shots hold up just as well. Pictured here in a loose cami top and trinket necklace, Keira makes a case for swapping your usual black boots for brown this autumn.
Heeled boots and a statement bag

Take a leaf out of Alexa Chung’s style book and pair heeled leather ankle boots with a minidress and cardigan. It’s twee meets indie sleaze – a low-effort, high-reward approach to nostalgic dressing.
Nude boots and a matching outfit

Channel noughties supermodel style with a little help from Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s wardrobe. Swap your usual black or brown boots for a beige knee-high pair, then add a mini and oversized sunglasses for the full effect.
Knee-high boots and a statement coat

Kate Moss never met a pair of leather boots she didn’t like. Here, she makes a case for swapping classic blue jeans for grey, tucked into black leather knee-highs. Finish with a statement coat and a bare face for a dose of signature Kate cool.
