It would have been remiss to celebrate Italian fashion and craftsmanship without those who made it world-beating. And so Miuccia Prada, Donatella Versace, Domenico Dolce, Stefano Gabbana, Pierpaolo Piccioli, Francesco Risso and Maria Grazia Chiuri were among the titans of Italian style gathered on the front rows of the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. Rarely do so many find themselves in the same room at the same time, much less to watch their own designs from years past take to the runway. There were a few honorary Italians in the mix, too: Gucci’s Demna, Prada’s Raf Simons, Bottega Veneta’s Louise Trotter, Ferragamo’s Maximilian Davis, Marni’s Meryll Rogge and Pieter Mulier, currently beavering away on his first collection for Versace, to be revealed in February 2027. Pamela Anderson has famously forgone make-up for years now, and while we love an A-lister who takes a natural approach, we couldn’t help but enjoy the now uncharacteristically maximalist she brought to the frow inside the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II at Vogue World: Milano. With neon Versace (hi, Cardi B!), and attention-seeking Valentino Haute Couture (ciao, Gigi Hadid!) on the runway, it’s perhaps no surprise that Anderson chose to amp things up somewhat, opting for a curled Jazz Age bob and sultry eyeliner, paired with a golden Ferragamo gown and piles of chunky Pandora jewellery.

A Dakota and Alessandro love-in

Fashion designer fraternising aside, Vogue World: Milano was also something of an A-list reunion. It was particularly smile-inducing to see Valentino’s Alessandro Michele and his longtime muse Dakota Jonhson – pigtailed (him) and preened (her) – making a beeline for one another for a quick hug and a kiss. Dakota wore a saccharine Valentino gown, accented with beaded florals, for last year’s Vogue World: Hollywood, but in Milan last night she oozed after-dark vamp, sporting an all-black two piece from the house’s autumn/winter 2026 collection. With its layers of transparent chiffon and bold plunging neckline, the look was even better once sealed with a kiss! –

The Versace segment of Vogue World: Milano was always going to pop, but few could have predicted that rapper Cardi B – a performer who brags about parking her Bentley truck on her Versace driveway – would actually model one of Donatella’s pop-art dresses. Her cover look hailed from the brand’s spring/summer 2018 collection, for which Donatella mined her late brother Gianni’s archives to mark the 20th anniversary of his death. On the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II runway, Cardi (who previously made her runway debut at Balenciaga’s pre-fall 2024 show in Los Angeles) proved Versace’s splashy print is as relevant – and fab! – as ever. Styled with Versace heels and Tiffany & Co. bone cuffs, Donatella herself nodded along in approval from the front row, alongside fellow Italian fashion titans Alessandro Michele and Miuccia Prada, the latter of whom showed her spring/summer 2027 collection just hours earlier. Imaan embodied the 21st century super

Imaan Hammam summoned the spirit of her supermodel forebears to open the third act with a strut worthy of the fashion history books. Dressed in a zingy Versace catsuit printed with covers, and flanked by Ida Heiner and Amelia Gray, her exit conjured the energy of the iconic runway moments that are the fashion house’s stock in trade (the autumn/winter 1991 finale that sent the supers stratospheric, J Lo rewearing her internet-altering jungle-print dress). She may be Dutch, but Hammam was every inch the Italian bombshell in Milan last night. – 

J Lo chose to get on the floor

When Jennifer Lopez swept into the Galleria clad in Dolce & Gabbana to take up her seat, she had a surprise up her sleeve. The Dolce Vita-themed section of the show kicked off with J Lo being escorted from her seat into the central spotlight, where she twirled to show off her Sophia Loren-worthy ensemble to full effect. Rightly so: main character energy this potent cannot be confined to the front row. – 

Internet boyfriends were in the building

Any fans of will have been pleased to spot Norwich boy Sam Claflin on the runway. The actor walked for Vogue World: Milano wearing one of the most legendary pieces in fashion: Richard Gere’s original costume from , designed by Giorgio Armani just five years into his career. He wasn’t the only internet boyfriend in attendance, either. Footballer Ruben Loftus-Cheek also showed up in his full kit (why not?), alongside fellow players Lorenzo Ossola and Ashley Hu. – 

Alicia Keys closed the show with a bang

Act V, titled “The Imagination Revolution”, began with the magical sounds of a children’s choir filling the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, before none other than Alicia Keys floated down the runway. Dressed in a hand-painted dress by Francesco Risso, she was a vision – and even more so when she stood at the piano to belt out a breathy rendition of Donna Summer’s disco classic “I Feel Love”. Surrounded by models in a parade of floaty white gowns, it made for a barnstorming finale. –
