The 2026 Emmys marked a night of historic wins: Jean Smart, taking home her eighth Emmy and her fifth Best Actress in a Comedy statuette for alone, became the first female performer ever to win TV’s highest honour for every single season of a series. Meanwhile, Matthew Rhys also achieved something no other actor has in 78 years of the Emmys – he won two lead acting prizes on the same night: Best Actor in a Comedy for and Best Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series for The Beast in Me. Given he already has a Best Actor in a Drama Emmy (for in 2018), it makes him the first male performer to have netted the full trifecta. Elsewhere, and also won big.
