Amal Clooney Is Always Venice Film Festival’s Best Dressed
Our annual reminder that Amal Clooney is at her most fashion-forward at Venice Film Festival came before this year’s edition had even started. Arriving via varnished wood water taxi, with husband George by her side, the barrister and human rights lawyer wore a three-piece shorts suit in rich olive-green satin and a pair of big, square sunglasses by Tom Ford by Haider Ackermann.
Her winning streak continued when she made her first red-carpet look of the festival – a slinky, ruched column dress with a boned construction and panels of inky black ruching. Not only did the look mark something of a shift from the typically peppy palette she’s earned a name for – it was also the second new-era Tom Ford look she sported in just as many days. Is Amal in her Ackermann era? Well, trust that we’ll be keeping close watch here.
But we’re also reminiscing about her previous sartorial successes in the floating city. Take the magenta look – a vintage taffeta confection with an almost campy train by Jean-Louis Scherrer – that Amal sported last year to the premiere. And then there’s her impressive roll call of Versace showstoppers – from 2024’s corseted and ruffled gown to the lilac dress she wore in 2017 shortly after the birth of the couple’s twins. After seeing Nicole Kidman’s Pieter Mulier for Versace debut, we’re also seriously manifesting a further rollout of the Belgian designer’s vision for the house on Amal. In the meantime, take a look back at some of the very best looks Clooney has sported on the Lido.
