Astrid

You’ll find Astrid - a demure double-sited Euro bakehouse with impeccable curb appeal - in the leafy residential fringes of Alexandra Palace. Former journalist Charlotte O'Kelly began baking during lockdown and hasn’t stopped since. After delivering curated breakfast boxes to local residents, she opened the Wes Anderson-inspired mint green hatch in 2024. The bigger, sit-in bakery a few doors down followed not long after. The smaller spot offers all manner of sweet treats, from juicy almond croissants through to fruity pastries which incorporate more obscure fruits (greengages!) as well as fluffy brioche cardamon buns and a seriously good croissant. The larger venue sells deli bits (eggs etc) as well as Astrid’s award-winning granola, savoury offerings (ham and cheese croissant, focaccia and sausage rolls), and bread. Their sourdough is triumph; a world away from tougher, teeth-snapping versions we have known, this bouncy, light loaf is made with wholemeal spelt and heritage einkorn.

You can pick up a festive panettone all year round: there’s Astrid’s classic version, triple chocolate or clementine and milk chocolate varieties on offer.
