Jane Austen adaptations always bring certain things to mind: wild English moors, handsome suitors, and – for the beauty obsessed – the windswept waves and doe eyes of the classic corset-clad heroine. Daisy Edgar-Jones’s Sense and Sensibility press tour wardrobe has been leaning into the mood, and her look for her latest outing has echoes of another period drama queen: Keira Knightley.

For Sense and Sensibility’s Australian premiere on 1 October, Edgar-Jones switched up her signature curtain bangs for a long, blunt and glossy full fringe that immediately called to mind a 2009 Keira Knightley.

The homage – whether deliberate or not – sent us off down something of a rabbit hole, where we discovered that Edgar-Jones’s swept back curtain bangs and romantic, tousled styling for the world premiere of the film also chimed with Knightley’s hairstyle for an appearance at the 2005 Toronto Film Festival, where she was promoting Joe Wright’s Pride and Prejudice.

Daisy’s piece-y bangs and side pony for a visit to the BBC Studios in London, meanwhile, also channelled the tousled updos Knightley was wearing on the red carpet while starring as Lizzie Bennet. Perhaps the ability to rock bangs is just a prerequisite if you’re going to play an Austen heroine?
