While half of Hollywood is embracing the glitz and glamour of the Venice Film Festival in a rotation of fresh-off-the-runway looks, the other half is taking a more laid-back approach, pulling on its best normal-person clothes for Tinseltown’s most casual film festival: Telluride.
In many ways the anti-Venice, Telluride is known for its ample supply of off-duty outfit inspiration, as even the starriest celebrities swap red-carpet finery for the baggy jeans and lived-in flannel shirts favoured by the festival’s arthouse darlings. Leaning into the Colorado gathering’s low-key dress code this year was Emma Stone, who traded her glittering Louis Vuitton gowns for a woollen Khaite jacket thrown over a red T-shirt, bright-white jeans and boots. You could feasibly recreate the look from a suburban second-hand shop.
Stone wore the outfit while moderating a post-screening Q&A for Nathan Fielder’s documentary about imprisoned Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes – but the formula has far broader everyday appeal.
