Whether you were frequenting the old-man pubs of London Fields or browsing the artisanal bakeries of Primrose Hill, when it came to the outerwear choices of London’s fashion insiders, autumn/winter 2025 was an undeniable fuzz fest. This “spoilt brat” look, as ’s Olivia Allen described it, was all about “more is more” volume that gave the wearer the silhouette of a character, which was only enhanced by the addition of streamlined bootcut jeans and bug-eyed sunnies. A weathered shoulder bag (ideally a vintage Le City) was also a prerequisite. So very Sofia Coppola’s .

While the Big Bird look is by no means disappearing for 2026 (Exhibit A: the conversation-starting, butterscotch beast that Maya Jama wore in episode two of ), we’re seeing a new evolution of the trend come to the fore this season. Not quite a full faux fur, not-quite a quilted puffer, this new iteration is a curious hybrid of the two (a fluffer? A purr?) with a bomber-like silhouette, shell outer and faux fur-trimmed neckline.

You can trace the origins of this coat crossbreed back to the master of reinvention, Demna, who sent out fur-swathed cropped bombers styled with skin-tight trousers for his Gucci debut. It’s a testament to his commercial savvy that, just over a year later, we’re witnessing the proliferation of the style across the fashion spectrum, from Isabel Marant and H&M to Maje.

Of course, we can’t ignore the simultaneous rise of the faux fur-trimmed opera coat, the fluffer’s camp cousin – all sweeping hemlines, decadent embroidery and sumptuous silks – but this mood might not resonate with everyone, in which case a more utilitarian take might be a more appealing proposition. Because, let’s face it, when we’re stepping out of the house into horizontal freezing rain on a dark December morning, most of us want a sartorial equivalent of an emotional support duvet to get us through the day.

Styling-wise, the beauty of these faux-fur trimmed jackets is that you can treat them as you would any other bomber or puffer jacket in your wardrobe. Take ’s Laura Reilly, who styled her H&M Studio faux-fur jacket with a ladylike slip skirt and kitten heels, however you know it would look just as good with tracksuit bottoms and boots on the weekend. This silhouette also lends itself to the preppy A-line and pleated midi-skirts making the rounds at the moment – just add a flat knee-high boot for when you want to feel comfortable yet polished. Surely a winter styling sentiment we can all get behind.
