As a jewellery editor, I’m used to squinting at images on my computer screen to get a closer look at the jewels worn by the A-list – particularly when certain celebrities seem determined to keep their engagement-ring fingers hidden. In recent weeks, as I’ve pored over photographs of two of the most Googled women in the world – Victoria Beckham in vertiginous vintage Chanel pumps and body-skimming khaki knits, and Jennifer Lawrence giving eclectic mum on the school run in chartreuse velvet separates, a colourful scarf and a weathered Hermès Kelly – I’ve felt literally green with envy at the stones glinting on their fingers. Emeralds, it appears, are on the up for autumn.
Take VB, who is rumoured to have amassed 15 engagement rings over the course of her 27-year marriage, including a gobstopper of a design centred on a 25-carat emerald surrounded by diamonds. When she visited her newly opened Mercer Street store in New York last month, my eye was drawn not just to the pearl details of her 2010-era Chanel heels, but also to the pear-cut emerald ring set in yellow gold by Isa Grutman, which appears to float on her finger like a teardrop. Beckham is such a fan of the Brazilian jeweller, who makes her pieces in Los Angeles, that she hosted a pop-up of her designs at her Dover Street flagship in London in summer 2025.
Lawrence has also been making a case for green stones while ambling about Manhattan. Alongside her collection of The Row coats, Hermès bags, cartoon tees and paintbox sweatpants, she’s often photographed wearing a bezel-set emerald ring by Yi Collection, its stone mounted in a grooved mound of yellow gold, on the fourth finger of her right hand. Pieces by the Shanghai- and New York-based fine jewellery brand are crafted by female artisans in Bangkok. The only other ring she regularly wears is her Alison Lou-designed engagement ring, featuring a single emerald-cut diamond.

“We love emeralds because, unlike diamonds, where inclusions are generally seen as imperfections, an emerald’s natural inner textures are celebrated as part of its beauty. Known as its , these unique internal characteristics give each stone its own wonderful personality,” says Eliza Walter, founder of London jewellery brand Lylie, who has noted an upsurge in demand for emerald engagement rings. This includes bezel-set designs, like Lawrence’s, “which offer greater protection to the stone’s delicate edges during everyday wear.” Jeweller Jessie Thomas adds: “I tend to let the stone lead the design, and with emeralds it’s all about bringing out that incredible green.”
Another emerald aficionado is Zoë Kravitz, who has in recent years been photographed wearing a sizeable east-west-set emerald in blackened gold by Jessica McCormack on her pinky finger. The London-based New Zealand jeweller’s latest Bows collection features an abstract bow-motif ring, with a juicy cabochon-cut emerald at its centre, surrounded by fronds of tapered baguette-cut diamonds.
As for which other A-listers are coveting emerald rings this autumn? Rest assured, I’m squinting at my Instagram feed to find out.
