It feels like only last week we were deciding which niche pop-cultural reference to dress as for Halloween – and it was – but already party season beckons. And if the A-list is anything to go by, this year’s festive dress code is shaping up to be a case of more is more.
At last night’s CFDA Awards, Anthony Vaccarello’s vision of 24-karat glitz for Saint Laurent received not one, not two, but three votes of confidence from some of the best-dressed women in the business. Rosé, Zoë Kravitz and Hailey Bieber all presented the creative director with the International Designer of the Year award, dressed in a trifecta of lamé-and-lace looks from his swansong spring/summer 2027 collection – a far cry from the red-carpet LBDs for which they’ve become synonymous.

Unveiled beneath a canopy of chandeliers with the Eiffel Tower twinkling in the distance, Vaccarello’s farewell show was the stuff of fashion history. Not least because of a surprise closing performance from Charlotte Gainsbourg, but also because 49 of the 59 looks that preceded it were cut from gold métallisé fabrics, with the show notes referencing a decades-old Yves Saint Laurent quote: “It’s a magical color, when reflecting a woman, it’s the color of the sun.” If even Rosé, Kravitz and Bieber – architects of the understated cool-girl uniform – got the memo, perhaps it’s time the rest of us went for gold this season, too.
