This fashion week has made something clear on the make-up front: matte formulations – those Noughties favourites – are on the way back. But don’t panic. This isn’t the parched foundation lips and cake-y base you might recall with a shudder. Look instead to Emma Stone’s K-beauty-inspired “cloud lips” at the Louis Vuitton show on the final night of the spring/summer 2027 season: a matte finish that’s diffused and, crucially, comfortable. (The kind that doesn’t require a lip mask immediately after being scoured off.)
Instead of an ultra-defined lip line, the edges of Stone’s matte rosy lips are gently buffed and blurred, for a hazy “cloud” effect. “K-beauty isn’t about sharp definition, but about gentle layering. You apply lip make-up almost like eye make-up – shading, highlighting, blending, and working with multiple shades,” Dior make-up’s creative and image director, Peter Philips, previously explained to Vogue.

As for how to recreate it at home? Always start with a strong and well conditioned base, prepping the lips with an exfoliator and moisturiser. From there, take your favourite matte lippie, and “dab a little product onto your lower lip, tap it in with your finger, and gently blend it outward”, as per Philips’s instructions. Keep dabbing until there are no harsh lines, for that perfect, just-been-kissed look. “This creates a soft lip-stain effect that looks like a second skin. If you want to intensify the look, apply a second layer of colour.”
