is launching a branch in Canary Wharf later this month. It will be the fifth outpost of the premium fried chicken chain, which is best known for its tender chicken sarnies and spicy wings.
Coqfighter was set up by a trio of friends – Tristan Clough, Deacon Rose and Troy Sawyer – in 2014. The concept was inspired by their years living in Melbourne eating Korean fried chicken in the city’s Chinatown. Supper clubs for their mates soon turned into residencies, which eventually led to a permanent shop in Shoreditch’s Boxpark (Coqfighter used to trade under a previous name Wingman).
Now the brand has four London venues: Liverpool Street, Soho, King’s Cross and Finsbury Park. The Canary Wharf location is a return to east London – albeit much further east than Shoreditch.
reports that the menu will feature Coqfighter’s signature fried chicken sandwiches, including a vegan option, wings tossed in homemade sauces, roast and grilled chicken dishes and stacked sides ranging from mashed potato with miso gravy to coconut rice. The ‘k-wings’ (£10) feature twice-fried chicken coated in a spicy Korean glaze, while the Nashville Hot sandwich (£11.50) features fried chicken breast, pickles, chipotle mayo and green slaw.
Troy Sawyer, co-founder and chef director at Coqfighter said: ‘We are officially opening our new doors in Canary Wharf, bringing our signature fried chicken and burgers straight to the heart of London.
‘It’s a massive milestone for our team, and we owe a huge thank you to every single one of our customers. We can’t wait to welcome you into the new Canary Wharf venue and show you why we were voted among the very best in the country.’
Coqfighter Canary Wharf, Market Halls, 25 North Colonnade, Canary Wharf Estate, E14 5HD, on October 21.
