Fringe fiend Jennifer Lawrence has changed things up on the hair front. Arriving at Dior’s spring/summer 2027 show in Paris on 29 September, the house ambassador debuted a freshly trimmed fringe, worn with her honey-blonde hair tousled into loose waves that fell just below her chest. Sitting around an inch above her brows, J Law’s new bangs were noticeably shorter, lighter, and more piecey than usual: a wispy, face-opening proposition that gave her familiar long lengths an entirely different energy. They were styled on the day by Matthew Sosnowski.
“I always like to see what someone is wearing before I style their hair,” Sosnowski shared with from Paris. “She wore a light blue slip dress, so a soft style was my approach. I started with a fresh blowout… [then] I added some light texture with an iron to give her a light wave, and finished with some texture spray to give it a lived-in look. I always look at hair as a frame of the canvas, so a fringe always provides that beautifully.”
It’s only been a few weeks since Lawrence unveiled what hairstylist Chris Appleton christened “butterfly bangs” at the LVMH Prize ceremony in Paris. Appleton – working with Lawrence for the first time – cut the fringe shorter and airier through the centre before allowing it to wing out around the cheekbones, creating movement without the heaviness of a traditional fringe. Lawrence has proved something of a fringe chameleon over the years: she has also regularly worked with hairstylist Jacob Rozenberg, cycling through Jane Birkin-inspired bangs, soft curtain fringes, and the wispy “U bangs” she wore earlier this year.
It was back in July that Lawrence debuted a chestnut-brown shade – her darkest hair colour in years – dappled with lighter blonde highlights. In Paris, it looked like she’s leaned into a more bronde-y wash.
Lawrence isn’t the only fringe fan taking things shorter for fall, either. Dakota Johnson has been wearing her signature fringe at a similarly brow-revealing length during the press tour – although hers remains notably fuller and denser. Johnson recently admitted to that she sometimes trims her bangs herself, rather than leaving every snip to her longtime hairstylist, Mark Townsend.
Could the pair be providing some timely autumn fringe inspiration? Earlier this year, hairstylist Frankie Inverarity predicted the rise of “disconnected bangs”: a shorter, wispier fringe with separated corners that sits cleanly forward, rather than disappearing seamlessly into the rest of the haircut. Keeping the fringe just above the brows, she explained, allows it to feel lighter and softer while opening up the face. Lawrence’s new cut could practically be the moodboard reference.
The undone quality also felt particularly appropriate at Dior, where Jonathan Anderson’s spring/summer 2027 runway beauty embraced similarly unfussy texture: Guido Palau gave models salty, surfer-inflected hair, paired with Peter Phillips’s luminous skin and flashes of silver around the eyes. Jennifer Lawrence took a somewhat softer approach, where make-up artist Shayna Goldberg crafted her signature glowy and golden complexion, finished with a rose-petal pink lip.
Lawrence also wore Dior, naturally: a pale blue embroidered lace slip dress that gathered into a dropped waist and softly draped silhouette, paired with a matching Lady bag and bow-topped mules. Her manicure stayed similarly delicate in pale pink, while a burgundy pedicure offered one small concession to autumn’s richer traditional colour palette.
