Nowadays, collaborations are at the core of fashion brand strategies, but Uniqlo was ahead of the curve when it invited JW Anderson to become a permanent collaborator in 2017. Other major retailers like H&M had already released a steady stream of collabs when JW X Uniqlo was in its infancy, but these were one-off iterations that called upon different brands and designers each season, rather than ongoing creative partnerships.

Thus, Anderson was able to hone codes and signatures, primarily centred around wardrobe staples, that differed from his eponymous line and his then-position as creative director at Loewe. A lot has changed since his inaugural Uniqlo outing – for one, Anderson now heads up Dior. But the designer’s approach to his Uniqlo gig remains consistent, championing classic silhouettes and fabrications.

For autumn/winter 2026, knitwear takes centre stage. Humble knits are a personal favourite of Anderson’s – he regularly wears a great jumper and jeans for his show finales – and while he tends to stick to navy and grey, his latest Uniqlo instalment brings autumnal tones, pops of baby pink and red, and sherbet pastels to the fore, in V-neck jumpers, plunging cardigans and sweater vests, plus beanies and striped scarves. Anderson also has a penchant for intarsia patterns (a recurring motif), and this season, he experimented with Argyle once again.

Preppy style has been an overarching theme of JW Anderson X Uniqlo from the outset, and for autumn/winter 2026 the concept takes life as wide-leg trousers, an array of enduring denim silhouettes in various washes, scholarly pleated skirts, blouson jackets and striped and checked shirting, all made with layering in mind. In fact, any loyal customers with a piece from his 2017 in their ownership could easily mix and match it with the new offering.
