Is Kaia Gerber on a one-woman mission to revive trends from every decade? Her big and bouncy ’80s blowout (think Brooke Shields and Lauren Hutton) in Ryan Murphy’s has already created a ripple effect in beauty circles, with Margaret Qualley sporting a similar look at the Toronto Film Festival.

It seems she’s been diving into the hairstyle history books again while promoting the show, channelling her supermodel mum Cindy Crawford’s signature swept over side part from the ’90s (a style that also nodded to the Old Hollywood glamour of stars like Veronica Lake – two retro trends for the price of one). Her latest look for an outing on Wednesday night, the work of hairstylist Ricky Fraser, skipped ahead a few decades, tapping into the dip-dyed locks that were ubiquitous on Tumblr in the 2010s. But to those still triggered by memories of unblended bleach, fear not: this time around, Gerber and Fraser have given the two-tone effect a less stark and far more wearable feel.

With extensions used to lengthen Gerber’s natural hair, there’s no black-to-platinum fade (or lack thereof) here. Instead, her chocolate roots transition gradually into a caramel-ly bronde tone that’s perfect for autumn. Her chestnut eyeshadow further enhanced the autumnal effect. As for the beauty era Kaia will take on next? Perhaps a trending mid-century pixie crop could be on the cards.
