You’ll be hard pressed to find a staffer who doesn’t have a piece from Marks & Spencer in their wardrobe that they’re passionate about. Whether it’s an enduring white T-Shirt that fits just right – and looks box-fresh after several washes – or a pair of versatile jeans that are both office- and weekend-worthy, the team are M&S stalwarts.

Contributing writer Augustine Hammond is particularly enthusiastic about Marks & Spencer’s shoe offering, which boasts an array of popular ballet flats and low heels, for little more than £50, and the retailer’s bag range, which spans work-ready totes, drawstring clutches and an array of suede bags in toffee hues that are quintessentially autumnal.
As for what we’ve got our eye on for the season ahead? The brand’s London Fashion Week collection, which marked 100 years of M&S fashion, brought a plethora of new silhouettes and fabrications to the fore, which ’s deputy director of the Global Fashion Network, Laura Ingham, got a sneak preview before its reveal.
“A sartorial journey through the decades, the see-now-buy-now show also revealed an emphasis on what Marks & Spencer does best: well-made pieces spanning knitwear, tailored trousers, shirting, outerwear and accessories, all in high-quality fabrications,” she explained of the style touchpoints the design team explored.
Laura also had the opportunity to try on pieces from the autumn/winter collection, including the menswear-inspired tuxedo, comprised of a classic jacket and satin-striped, barrel-leg trousers, a faux-fur-trimmed flight jacket, twisted-seam wide-leg jeans, and a striking pair of postbox-red, straight-leg trousers. “My wardrobe features primarily neutral shades, but when I do venture into colour, I tend to style it with more pared-back staples,” she said of the punchy hue.
The asymmetric blazer, cut with a stand collar, the animal-print jacket, lace-insert cami and the cord trousers are also on our radar. There’s plenty for everyday usage, but the evening line-up is also great: the satin roll clutch bag and the pointed, slingback kitten heels make for stylish after-dark companions.
The Vogue Shopping team have been busy scouting out our favourite styles, here is our edit of the best of Marks & Spencer’s autumn buys to invest in now.
