When Kate Middleton completed the National Three Peaks Challenge in June – becoming the first royal to do so – it turns out that she also conquered another challenge: the art of the family photo.
On 25 October, she shared a new photo of herself, Prince William, and their three children – 13-year-old Prince George, 11-year-old Princess Charlotte, and eight-year-old Prince Louis – along with others from her hike, in honour of Mountain Rescue Awareness Day.
“We send our heartfelt thanks to all those who volunteer their time and expertise to keep people safe in some of our most beautiful but challenging landscapes,” the Prince and Princess of Wales wrote in an Instagram caption.
“Through our connection with this remarkable organisation, we have seen first-hand the dedication, professionalism and compassion that define their work. Meeting local mountain rescue teams during the Three Peaks Challenge this summer was an opportunity to say thank you in person for the vital role they play in keeping walkers and climbers safe on the mountains all year round,” they wrote, adding: “We are incredibly proud to support the extraordinary volunteers who respond in all conditions, often at a moment’s notice, to help others when they need it most. To everyone across the mountain rescue community, thank you for your unwavering commitment, courage and service.”

There was also some subtle outfit coordination in the photo, with the Prince and Princess wearing warm brown tops, and George and Charlotte wearing matching navy blue tops (a sweater for Charlotte; a polo shirt for George) and jeans.
