is one of the biggest street parties in the entire world. This weekend, millions and millions of people will once again parade down the streets of W11, clad in sequins, flags and feathers and dancing to the finest tunes from the Caribbean.
But for that to happen, practically all of the roads in the vicinity have to be blocked off to vehicles. More than 100 roads will shut for the event, starting from 6am on Sunday. Parking restrictions will apply from 11.59pm on Saturday.
So, if you were planning on driving anywhere around Notting Hill this weekend – don’t bother. If you live in any of the affected areas and want access to your car over the weekend, move it well before the party kicks off. During festivities, only pre-authorised vehicles and emergency services will be allowed into the Carnival area. And for the first time, parts of Notting Hill Gate will be closed for the event. Notting Hill Carnival road closures
These roads will all be shut from 6am on Sunday August 30 until 6am on Tuesday, September 1, or until it’s safe to do.
- Bishops Bridge Road (from Porchester Road to Westbourne Grove)
- Great Western Road, starting at the junction with Harrow Road
- Notting Hill Gate (closed to all traffic except buses on August 30 and 31)
- Park Lane, junction Hyde Park corner
How to get to Notting Hill Carnival
If you’re not close enough to walk, the best way to get to Carni is by public transport. However, note that most stations in the area will have restrictions throughout the weekend. Here’s all the info from TfL, applying to both Sunday and Monday.
- Closed all day
- May close for short periods throughout the day, station shuts at 11pm
- No entry from 11am - 6pm, District/Circle lines will not stop
- No entry from 11am - 3pm, closes at 3pm
- No entry from 11am - 6pm.
- No entry from 11am - 6pm, closes at 6pm
- No ticket facilities or down escalator after 4pm
- Expect long queues
- Chamberlayne Road entrance closes at 6pm
