The unexpected catwalk cameo is pretty much fashion week tradition at this point – as par for the course in Paris as street-style photographers, traffic and twice-baked potatoes at Caviar Kaspia. Designers have put OG supers, rappers, actors and even fashion critics on the runway in recent seasons, and a liberal sprinkling of nepo babies is now a given. But arguably no one does stunt casting better than Mrs Prada (it was Miuccia who so memorably assembled a team of Hollywood “villains” that included Gary Oldman and Willem Dafoe for the autumn/winter 2012 Prada show), and she pulled off another surprise in Paris today, where Olivia Colman just walked the Miu Miu runway.

The former British cover star, Oscar-winner and all-round national treasure wore a leather skirt suit, flats and a chic low pony to walk as part of a line-up that also included her co-star Emma Corrin. Corrin, of course, is something of a dab hand – they tottered along the autumn/winter 2023 runway in heels and sparkly knickers, and have appeared in campaigns for Miu Miu. Her on-screen mum, by contrast, tends to keep a lower profile – Colman once described herself as “weird and shy” in an interview with British , and later said she finds her fame “very embarrassing”.

Happily for guests at today’s show, the 52-year-old (who revealed a new look earlier in the week while promoting her film ) was persuaded to put all that aside to join Mrs P’s characteristically eclectic model line-up. Also spotted on the runway? star Noah Jupe, Jamie Bell, Louisa Jacobson (daughter of Meryl Streep) and Ella Bleu Travolta (daughter of John). Like we said, it’s a given.
