Selena Gomez Takes A Stand Against The Bob Trend

Dusting off your wellies, playing conkers, cutting a bob: some things just go with autumn. There's nothing like cutting off sun-bleached summer locks and letting the season’s crisp breeze kiss your neck. But Selena Gomez, a documented bob lover and ever the beauty pioneer (this is the founder of Rare Beauty, after all), is taking a stand against the practically requisite autumnal chop. Unveiling her new ’do at the Emmy Awards on Monday night, hairstylist Renato Campora gave her lush tresses a dreamy feel with loose, romantic curls. Very windswept princess running barefoot through the muddy English wilds-core, just in time for the release of Sense and Sensibility.

This was no one night stand: Gomez revealed that she’s committed to the Rapunzel-esque hair last night on an outing in New York. This time, she wore her tresses straight and sleek, officially making the case for ditching a September shear. And, logically, the perennial bob’s usual timing does seem a bit counterintuitive. With a chill in the air, there’s nothing better than bundling up – and what’s more luxurious (and frankly, kind of fabulous) than doing it with luscious extensions?

Amal Clooney and George Clooney Venice Film Festival

It seems Gomez isn’t the only one rebelling against pro-bob propaganda. At the Venice Film Festival, the battle of the bob was waged in the Clooney household, with Amal Clooney’s signature enviably long locks sharply contrasting husband George Clooney’s short silver trim. Long hair advocates Dua Lipa and Anne Hathaway also let their manes down at Bulgari’s art installation in New York. The two posed with BLACKPINK’s Lisa, who wore her hair up in a stylish coif; but perhaps the duo had a word. One day later at the Toronto Film Festival, Lisa arrived with an epic ponytail that dripped down to her lower back. Feeling influenced? With all the tremendous star power behind it, perhaps it’s finally time to buck the bob for good – and lean into autumnal long hair instead.
