After a relentless run of summer heatwaves, we’ve never been so excited to pack up our sandals and enter into layering season. When it comes to autumn styling this year, the knitwear is bright, the scarves are XXL, the coats are enveloping and the boots are… varied.
When it comes to shoe trends, slouchy boots are having a moment, defined by a relaxed silhouette and gathered material on the leg. Sound familiar? These might be a nod to the boho Sienna Miller-endorsed styles from the Noughties, but 2026’s version are distinctly modern in their appearance, from Isabel Marant’s wrinkled pair to Chloé cowboy-leaning pair. Unless you’re styling them with airbrushed skinnies and a jacket with oscillating tassels, rest assured you’re keeping enough distance from Y2K styling tropes.
All boots should fit like a glove, but the autumn/winter 2026 collections brought new meaning to this phrase with a wave of supple and skintight boots crafted from thin leather that closely hugs the calf. Stand-out styles include the sock boot iterations seen at Michael Rider’s Celine, the bubble-soled versions seen at Miu Miu and the flat boots at The Row for Resort 2027. By contrast, Jonathan Anderson delivered an array of buckled boots, which fitted loosely on the ankle and added edge to flowing skirts and dresses.
