Barbour, best known for its waxed jackets and royal affiliations, has done a brilliant job of remaining relevant over the years. The heritage outerwear maker, whose story began in 1894, has embarked on a steady stream of collaborations with contemporary fashion brands, breathing new life into its much-loved designs and introducing them to a new generation of shoppers.
Legendary British brands including Erdem, Roksanda and Paul Smith have offered their own interpretations of Barbour’s country-coded classics over the years, while Ganni’s ongoing partnership with the brand has helped cement its appeal among the Scandi style set, not to mention recent cosigning from British style icons like Sienna Miller and Alexa Chung.
The latest link-up, however, comes from Parisian favourite A.P.C. – a meeting of minds that feels particularly natural given both brands share an appreciation for designs that are made to last and only get better with age. The new capsule spans outerwear, denim, shirts, basics and accessories, across both menswear and womenswear.
A key highlight is the return of Barbour’s archival Premium Thornproof Wax Cotton jacket, available in a darker sage and navy, and designed to develop a unique patina with wear. Expect familiar waxed-jacket proportions, given a considered update through A.P.C.’s clean lines and quietly functional approach to design.
Look beneath jacket collars and lapels, meanwhile, and Barbour’s signature tartan reveals itself, offering a subtle nod to the brand’s heritage. The motif appears again on belt loops, providing a playful counterpoint to A.P.C.’s equally recognisable Japanese raw denim. It is this attention to detail that makes the collection work – think Parisian pared-back dressing with a distinctly British sensibility, made to be worn and worn again.
