It’s common for a wardrobe staple to get a high-fashion makeover at the dawn of a new season. Matthieu Blazy has a habit of it: for his inaugural Chanel outing, Blazy revived the humble quarter-zip, and for his spring/summer 2023 Bottega Veneta debut, he designed a plaid shirt made from plaid-printed leather, rather than a traditional flannel fabrication, specially for Kate Moss, who wore it with a white tank top and denim-printed leather “jeans” on the runway. “I was thinking about Kate, the person, and what she wore out on the street in the ’90s,” he previously told .

While Blazy’s take on the plaid shirt was a feat of craftsmanship, other designers have stayed closer to the flannel’s origins. At Auralee autumn/winter 2026, creative director Ryota Iwai presented two new flannel shirt propositions. One super-soft earth-toned shirt with an elongated hemline, accompanied by a scarf and a scarf-looking skirt. And the other, a Western-leaning style with pearly buttons, paired with high-waisted acid-wash jeans.
