Last week London’s pizza-heads were no doubt thrilled by the news that a Chiswick pizzeria was crowned the greatest pizza restaurant in the entire world. Local ’za connoisseurs might also not be too surprised by the accolade won by Napoli on the Road, whose pizzaiolo Michele Pascarella has lined his mantlepiece with awards in recent years.

Napoli on the Road’s achievement is mightily impressive, sure, but did you know that it wasn’t the only London pizza spot to be named one of the finest on the planet? The full 50 Top Pizza World Awards list also featured a pie-making institution just off Trafalgar Square: 50 Kalò.

50 Kalò was founded in Naples in 2014 and opened its London location in 2018. 50 Top Pizza World 2026 placed it at number 23 in its global ranking, but also awarded the place its Il Fritturista – Oleificio Zucchi Award for ‘best fried food’.

Like Napoli on the Road, 50 Kalò is no stranger to pizza industry awards. It has regularly featured in lists of the finest pie-slinging spots in London, the UK, Europe and the world, and it was named the continent’s fourth-best pizza place earlier this summer.

50 Kalò’s style is, obviously, Neapolitan, and its fried foods include potato croquettes, frittatina al ragù and a selection of ‘pizze fritte’ dishes. 50 Top Pizza commended its mix of classic and ‘creative’ pizzas, and said:

‘The quality of this traditional pizza never disappoints, the level of the ingredients remains high, as does the standard of the dough.

‘Here, you rarely leave the pizza on the plate, you finish it and still have room for a small treat, whether it’s a fried dish, which is dry and delicate, or dessert.’
