Back in 2018, when British shot Victoria Beckham in honour of the 10th anniversary of her eponymous fashion brand, she made reference to her WAG-era style, humorously shipping a few design extras, hauled out of storage, to set. The item which caused the most consternation amongst the crew? One of the two outré golden thrones, upholstered in rich royal purple velvet, which Posh and Becks sat on, wearing matching Antonio Berardi looks, during their 1999 nuptials at Luttrellstown Castle in Dublin.

If you scour Beckham’s public past for more interior design wisecracks, there are plenty of chuckle-inducing one-liners in the NBC-produced 2007 reality show Victoria Beckham: Coming to America, which documented the Beckham family’s move to LA, after David signed up to a five year contract with LA Galaxy. The glass-fronted LA rental they live in on arrival is termed a “giant dusty ice cube”, a modern mansion installed on a cliff is a “death trap”, and a European-style villa filled with baroque duvet covers and leopard print rugs (sorry Scary Spice!) looks like a place “where somebody with no taste had just come in and thrown up”. Zing!

“I sound like I’m being very fussy and I am,” Beckham confides to her camera crew, after dodging paparazzi to view almost 60 homes in search of the perfect Hollywood Hills-adjacent family pile. That specificity, of course, now incorporates a minimalist Dover Street boutique, dreamt up by Farshid Moussavi and the warm-toned serenity-infused vision of Rose Uniacke (Rosie Huntington-Whiteley also has the British interior design behemoth on speed dial). It also incorporates the farmhouse interiors of the Beckhams’ Cotswolds retreat, the oft-Instagram checkerboard tiled entrance hall of their Holland Park mansion, and now, the first tableware pieces that VB has designed herself, in collaboration with German home and living brand Westwing.

Beckham is renowned for her love of hosting dinners, even if, as her hubbie divulged on podcast back in 2022, she has eaten the same meal of steamed fish and vegetables for over 25 years. “It’s something we’ve always done as a family, it’s a real moment to put the phones down and take the time to connect and catch up,” smiles Beckham. The Serving Style collection – a combination of tableware, textiles and decorative objects – features hammered-finished cutlery sets and sculptural napkin holders, inspired by the tactility of the Arts and Crafts movement, chain link plates and bowls, that nod to jewellery motifs in the designer’s ready-to-wear collections, in a sweep of refined organic hues with pops of hunter green glassware.

“It won’t come as a surprise, but I love the champagne coupes!” smiles Beckham of her favourite pieces in the collection (Posh was rumoured to have served bottles of fizz at her 50th birthday party, that cost upwards of four figures, and also has a penchant for Château Lafleur Pomerol 2006 and 1942 Don Julio tequila). She is also rather taken with a hammered metal butter dish, which could double up as a bathroom holder for her cult Satin Kajal Liner, or Vast Last mascara. “It’s playful, sculptural and functional all at once… You could place little trinkets in it or use it like a decorative paperweight — there’s really no right or wrong way!

As for Beckham’s interior-design-focused one-liners, The Serving Style collection has encouraged something a little more philosophical than her revelation in Victoria Beckham: Coming to America, that instead of bringing something edible to a luncheon at the home of Beverly Hills socialite Suzanne Hughes, she’ll gift “something Gucci”. Beckham muses: “Trends come and go, but good design endures.”
