The Bar jacket has anchored Jonathan Anderson’s vision at Dior, and for autumn/winter 2026 (his sophomore ready-to-wear collection) there were several iterations in grey virgin wool – a timeless wardrobe staple. However he wasn’t the only creative director to revisit this fundamental, as grey blazers featured heavily in the Miu Miu show, with sensible single-breasted jackets paired with awkward knee-length skirts and buttoned-up shirts.
Grey tailoring was a common thread throughout the autumn/winter 2026 collections, with double-breasted suit blazers at Givenchy, tweed jackets with power shoulders at Tom Ford and dark slate oversized jackets at Balenciaga. Although a grey blazer might sound rather boring, there wasn’t one uniform take, as colours ranged from charcoal to dove, with plenty of twists on proportions and styling. At Nanushka a woollen blanket scarf was beautifully draped over an oversized, boxy blazer, while Gabriela Hearst went for rich, heavy layering with a herringbone suit worn over a chunky knit with a mirrored chevron print.
Best grey blazers:
In many ways it’s a more useful foundational piece than a black blazer, as grey adds a softness and is less severe, but is just as versatile. The street-style crowd endorsed this message, as grey blazers were popular at both the September and February shows, with many favouring a more oversized fit for added drama. Herringbone wool will always be a timeless choice, while a double-breasted suit jacket pairs particularly well with wide-leg tailored trousers in either grey, navy or black.

Minimalist, contemporary brands such as Róhe, The Frankie Shop, St. Agni and Toteme are all a reliable option for tailoring. Meanwhile on the high street, Cos has leaned heavily into this category, while Aligne’s signature Daphne high-neck jacket looks beautiful in realised in laptop-grey.
