Miuccia Prada is loyal to a select few fashion items – V-neck jumpers, among them. As well as being a committed wearer, she has endorsed plunging necklines in her Prada and Miu Miu collections for decades. Olivia Colman became the poster woman of her latest iteration: the former British cover star and Oscar winner strode down the spring/summer 2027 runway wearing a leather skirt suit with a deep navy V-neck knit underneath.

Colman’s Miu Miu look was one of several that featured V-necks this season. There was another navy take and a burgundy style which were both worn beneath checked blazers with the collars and cuffs peeping through. While a logo-stamped cobalt blue version was styled with the brand’s upcycled Wrangler jeans. At Prada, they were shown with crystal-swathed skirts.
Mrs. Prada is a V-neck devotee, but there’s also a wider appreciation sweeping the fashion industry. The V-neck was a key silhouette at Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez’s Loewe debut last year, and it remained a staple of their revived Loewe vision this spring with dropped-shoulder shapes in pithy colourways, including sunshine and butter yellow and mint, embroidered with their new house insignia on the chest.

V-neck jumpers were a key takeaway of Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez’s Loewe debut last year…

…And they reappeared on the spring/summer 2027 runway.
As evidenced by Miu Miu and Loewe, there’s been a preference for low plunging Vs to allow an erogenous flash of décolletage or room for a shirt. True to its enduring design, designers have avoided subverting the V-neck too much and have stuck to the classic, unfussy silhouette. This means such high-fashion propositions can be easily replicated with a knit that isn’t in the thousands – team is fond of Uniqlo’s conveyer-belt of 100 per cent cashmere V-necks, and homespun styles by &Daughter, which come in either close-cut or oversized fits.
The V-neck’s ubiquity extended beyond the runway, as it was also worn by many attendees during fashion month. From neutrals to paintbox brights, there was a full spectrum of plunging knits on display.
